Featured Project: Cambridge
This small courtyard type garden in the centre of Cambridge was in need over a re-design.
The area was divided by a fence that created an even smaller area at the rear and left a space at the front of the property that was unusable. The customer wanted a garden that gave the feeling of space, and took in to consideration a few changes in ground levels where neighbouring boundaries met.
Some outside storage and lighting were also discussed. Along one boundary was an old wall that had been repaired a number of times and so was unsightly.
As the site was quite compact, we decided to limit the number of materials used to keep the garden looking ‘clean’ and un-cluttered.
Some seating and raised beds were constructed to account for the different levels and these, along with the old wall were rendered and painted white to make the space feel bright and fresh.
Decking was then laid throughout, all on one level which made the garden feel much larger. We used a hardwood for this as the colour contrasted nicely with the walls. The seating was topped with the dame decking and lift up lids were built to provide some outside storage. The original fence was removed and a new one was built in a different position to maximise the available space.
Finally, the lighting was installed to give some interest after dark.
