Featured Project: Ely
This was a property that had been extended and heavily re-modelled so the garden was in need of an overhaul.
The original patio had been removed in places to allow the installation of new drains so the customer asked us to make a fresh start with it. They wanted a fairly large patio, to as they frequently had big family gatherings and the new layout of the house left a small area to one side that the customers were unsure how to utilise.
In addition to this, there was a suspected problem with a blocked drain/soak away that needed investigation.
We suggested a design that encompassed all of their needs, including a large patio with a curved edge along what would become a deep border. The smaller section was to be used as a utility area, including a new bicycle shed.
Some trellis work and an arch were erected between the patio and this area to provide a little screening without cutting it off altogether.
The main patio and path were laid using the ‘coursed broken bond’ pattern which fits well with the type of stone used but avoids the ‘cluttered’ feel of a random layout that could be an issue over an area as large as this.
